CPRE’s Devon’s Best Kept Churchyard Entry Information
Winners 2022 -
All Saints, Kenton, with runner up, St Michael’s Chagford, and two highly commended prizes are awarded to St Andrews’s Halberton and All Saints, Holbeton. The Most improved churchyard certificate is awarded to St John The Baptist Church, Chittlehamholt and Best New Entry Certificate is awarded to St John The Baptist Church, Hawkchurch.
What is a Flower Day?
People seem to like the idea but maybe not know how we see it.
It’s an idea picked up in Newfoundland, Canada. Once every year families gather and, after a service, go to the Churchyard and tend family graves and lay flowers.. It’s a good opportunity to meet friends, neighbours and more distant relatives who maybe haven’t been seen since the last time. It helps keep memories and community alive.
